Syrian Student Initiative for the Advancement of Undergraduate Research Without Borders

The IIT Syrian student blog is pleased to introduce a new series of blog posts which focuses and highlights the heroic efforts of undergraduate students studying at universities across Syria; as well as students who have traveled beyond Syria. Developed several years ago, the Syrian Student Initiative for the Advancement of Undergraduate Research Without Borders worked to save and showcase research that was done throughout the undergraduate university system in Syria. These efforts have been renewed with the current collaboration between Suhaib Ibrahim (Illinois Institute of Technology, Aleppo and Damascus University) and Mahmoud Alkhatib. These efforts aim to demonstrate the capacity of the human spirit to triumph and sustain hope for the future; especially when so much has been lost.

Suhaib and Mahmoud intend to present at least one feature post on Syrian student research each month on the IIT Syrian Student blog. An additional goal of this initiative is to engage and explore ways in which we might support graduate students, post-docs, and university professors who remain in Syria – and places of war and conflict. The editors of the IIT Syrian student blog also recognize that university students from the MENA region and across the globe confront similar situations and welcome expressions of interest to present their research abstracts, and findings via this forum as well.

Research, knows no borders.
