From Aleppo to Monmouth College – a violinist carries the spirit of Syria and MLK forward

Image
Please allow me the opportunity to express my gratitude and thanks for all those who have aided me in becoming one of the Syrian students who was honored as a recipient for a scholarship to attend one of the finest liberal arts universities.
I consider myself so fortunate and blessed for receiving this amazing opportunity, and I am so excited to meeting new people and learning about and becoming immersed in a different culture.
I am certain that my studies in Monmouth College will enhance my knowledge and experience in the music field, and will guide me to grow as person and flourish as an exceptional musician.
I would like to one day pass my knowledge to the future generations of Syrian youth, and become a figure for hope and potential so as to prove to the world that the Syrian community has the ability and talent to master classical Western compositions and performances, just as I have done.
I very much hope that my studies will aid me in raising awareness of the musical heritage and culture in Syria.
Thank you so much Jusoor, IIE, IIT and Syrian Education USA Advisors for your dedication and effort for the students of Syria, who without you, would not be here today.
Special thanks to an amazing person, Mr. Hossam Shobokshi, for his tremendous generosity and to Mr. Gerald Doyle, whose care and support for Syrian students is eternally appreciated.
I still cannot believe that my dream finally has come true.
“Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.”

This was Dr. King’s last speech. If you’ve never listened to his final words, please
