A large number of Syrian students at IIT are into the technology field. So when we first heard about the Monkey Bars Hackathon, we thought it would be a great idea to form a team to represent the Syrians. The Hackathon is a competition where developers work in groups for 25 hours tocome up with a software application or a hardware project.
We formed a group of three students and called ourselves the Syrian Coders and then we started working on our software application. We had couple ideas in mind and after around 2 hours we decided to program a Resume Builder because we saw that many students had difficulties creating professional resumes.
Another Syrian team also participated in the Hackathon competition and that was called Awesome Engineering Team. Those guys were working on a robot that is capable of approaching nearby objects.
I can easily say that it was one of the most exciting and challenging things I’ve ever done and I enjoyed every minute. The way that we had to work so hard as a team and learn about things in so little time was really thrilling and then seeing the result of our hard work was very rewarding. It was hard to stay awake for 25 hours and each one of us couldn’t resist an hour or two of sleep but I am sure that we will not miss this event next year.
